We do not list individual turbines and and small clusters of turbines that are less than 30m (100 ft) in height.
Listing smaller individual turbines over 30m (100 ft) and smaller groups of turbines in this height range (3 or less of 30 to 50m) is becoming increasingly difficult. This is due to the numbers of applications coming forward, fuelled by the very large subsidies paid under the Feed-in Tariffs (FiT’s) system of subsidies. Like the Renewables Obligation indirect subsidy for commercial turbines over 5MW, FiT’s are paid from electricity bills.
These smaller schemes are not widely advertised and are usually decided by a planning officer under delegated powers, rather than by a democratically accountable planning committee. An environmental impact assessment is normally not required and a proper visual impact assessment is seldom carried out.
